Decontamination of Infectious Waste
METEKA offers system solutions for the decontamination of infectious waste. Decontamination
is carried out “on site”, in a safe, practicable cycle – an economical, environmentally friendly
solution that is easy to operate.
By collecting waste in a transportable container and immediately neutralising it “on the spot” close to its point of generation, it is possible to prevent the spread of infections. Both hospital and disposal staff, as well as patients and the public at large, are protected against injury and infection.
Decontamination is achieved by heating up the waste from inside in the collection/transportation
container by using “non-contact” microwave energy. The special patented Even-Heat Technology
is common to all MEDISTER waste decontamination devices, which are available in various sizes.
The METEKA Hygiene System
The METEKA Hygiene System is the optimal solution for the decontamination of infectious waste. The treatment of the waste takes place “on-site” in a safe, simple and environmentally friendly system.
Following the decontamination, and in accordance with ADR/RID, the decontaminated waste may be safely disposed of like ordinary household waste. Costly and problematic special waste transportation is no longer necessary.
Protection of the environment is ensured by the lower CO2 emissions burden, which contributes to reducing the “Carbon Footprint”, while the objectives of the “Basel Convention” are met in an optimal manner.

Hospital infections are directly related to hospital hygiene. Patients, hospital and disposal personnel are at risk from infectious agents in the collection, transport and manipulation of (potentially) infectious materials. Accordingly, careful management of infectious waste and materials in the hospital is the key to achieve optimal hygiene standards. With the application of the METEKA Hygiene System, infection risks are eliminated wherever possible (“Non-Contamination Strategy”).
Prevention of infection in the laboratory
The special waste collection system is also perfect for collecting waste material from laboratories. The MEDITAINER waste container is set up directly at the laboratory workplace with the MEDITRANS collection and transport trolley. The space-saving design makes it possible to optimally implement the METEKA Hygiene System even in the smallest of spaces. The 30 liter containers can even be placed under the worktable.

The mechanical and electrical components of the MEDISTER 10Essential are housed in a powder-coated steel casing. Specially designed MEDITAINER MTC 10 waste containers are used for disinfection in the stainless steel treatment chamber. They are also suitable for the collection and transport of contaminated materials.
MAXIMUM RELIABILITY
Infectious waste is thermally decontaminated in the MEDISTER 10Essential by a special microwave technology using moist heat. Uniform heating of the waste – even with inhomogeneous composition – is ensured.
SIMPLE, FAST, ECO-FRIENDLY
The fully automatic high-frequency (HF) thermal disinfection process of the MEDISTER 10Essential works quickly, cleanly and odorlessly. It requires neither a steam generator nor pressure components. Due to its compact design, easy installation, and energysaving, cost-efficient operation, as well as minimal service and maintenance requirements, the unit is particularly well suited for use in regions with a weak
infrastructure.
PRECISE DOCUMENTATION
The entire disinfection process with all data (treatment temperature, date, time, cycle duration) is documented by the unit and provided as a paper printout. Any error messages are also displayed. The disinfected waste is then disposed of with the bag
inserted in the container – like household waste.
